✅ When You Need to Recover Access

You’ll need to recover your wallet if:

  • You reset or lost your Ledger device
  • You’re setting up a new Ledger device to access an existing wallet
  • Your Ledger was damaged or stolen but you still have your 24-word recovery phrase

🔐 Before You Begin – Safety Checklist

DO NOT:

  • Enter your 24-word recovery phrase on a phone, computer, or any website (even Ledger.com)
  • Trust anyone asking for your recovery phrase online

DO:

  • Make sure you're on the official site: https://www.ledger.com/start
  • Use only your Ledger hardware wallet to enter the recovery phrase

🛠️ Step-by-Step: Safe Recovery with Ledger.com/start

Step 1: Prepare Your New (or Reset) Ledger Device

Go to: Ledger.com/start

  1. Select your device (Nano X, Nano S Plus, etc.)
  2. Choose "Restore from Recovery Phrase" instead of "Set up as new device"
  3. On your Ledger device, confirm you're ready to restore

Step 2: Enter Your 24-Word Recovery Phrase on the Device

  • You will be prompted to enter your 24 words directly on the device, one by one
  • Use the buttons on the device to scroll and confirm each word
  • This process recreates your exact same wallet with all your crypto accounts
🔒 IMPORTANT: Never enter your recovery phrase on your computer or phone. Only enter it on the Ledger device.

Step 3: Set a New PIN Code

  • After successful recovery, the device will ask you to create a new PIN
  • Choose a strong PIN (4 to 8 digits) and do not reuse old, weak codes

Step 4: Open Ledger Live and Restore Your Accounts

  1. Open Ledger Live
  2. Select “Already have a recovery phrase” and follow the prompts
  3. Go to Accounts → Click Add Account
  4. Ledger Live will detect and restore your wallets from the recovered phrase

🔄 Optional Advanced Recovery (Passphrase Wallets)

If your wallet used a 25th-word passphrase, you’ll need to:

  • Enable passphrase support in device settings
  • Enter the correct passphrase when accessing that hidden wallet

🧠 Final Tips to Stay Safe

  • Backup your 24-word phrase in a secure, offline location (metal backups recommended)
  • Never take photos or store it on your phone or cloud storage
  • Use Ledger Recover (if opted in) only if you understand and accept the custodial trade-offs
  • If unsure, contact Ledger Support — but never share your 24 words with them
